Since most of our research is sponsored by end users, the initial publication is usually in the form of the reports to the sponsor. We then prepare and disseminate that material to the wider audience. The following pages summarise recent research, where some material may be available from elsewhere on this site, and current research where no outputs are yet available from the on-going research.
The twin tests of the application of research are: does it work, and does it help? The distinctions that can be made between research and consultancy are largely artificial, except that the time pressures under which consultancy must be undertaken are often acute and the tests of success are sharper than for research. Consultancy is also almost invariably trans-disciplinary. The final page outlines a number of real projects which were undertaken under those time pressures and where we believe that the analysis was successful.
