Vision statement:
To advance the understanding of the ways in which hazards are created and how they change, as well as how the risks can be managed and adaptation can take place. To both develop means of evaluating the effectiveness of possible intervention strategies and more particularly to identify more effective means of intervention.
Experience:
The Centre has produced the key methodology and associated guideline for UK flood related project appraisal. Our 30 years' experience is used to provide advice and guidance for emergency and hazard managers around the world. Through a series of research projects, the Centre has developed a range of models of social as well as environmental processes. This includes floodplain development strategies and flood warning systems in situations ranging from tropical cyclones in Mauritius to seasonal flooding in the UK.
